Waajeed steps up for the third instalment of Carl Craig’s Detroit Love compilation
Waajeed’s Detroit Love Vol. 3 is out via Planet E and !K7 in mid-November.
The Dirt Tech Reck boss’s Detroit roots stretch back to a childhood spent listening to Roy Ayers, Kraftwerk and Funkadelic. He’d go on to work alongside J. Dilla as a founding member of Slum Village before launching a solo career that has seamlessly moved from hip-hop to house. For the Detroit Love Vol. 3, Waajeed positions Detroit artists like Patrice Scott and LADYMONIX alongside acts that look to Detroit for inspiration, like Teflon Dons, Doc Link and Preslav & C. Scott.
Per Detroit Love tradition, the CD and digital mix will be accompanied by an unmixed vinyl set gathering exclusive tracks from the compilation (save DJ Rimarkable’s “I’m In Trouble,” which was originally released on Dirt Tech Reck last year).
While Detroit Love Vol. 3’s 20 tracks come from other artists, Waajeed also has a solo EP of his own, Hocus Pocus, out this month on Benji B’s Deviation.
Carl Craig launched the label and compilation series in 2018 with a Stacey Pullen mix and handled the second instalment himself in April.
